National Historical Museum of Saint Fagans

Cardiff Rd, CF5 6XB, Wales, United Kingdom

About the company:

The historical museum of St. Fagans is located in the open air, and presents to its visitors the widest possible range of architecture, life and traditions of the population of Wales from ancient Celtic settlements to modern folk traditions. The museum is located in Cardiff, the capital of Wales. Over the past 50 years, the museum has brought more than 40 historic buildings from all over Wales. The attendance of this museum by tourists is not inferior to the attendance of the main attractions of Wales. The St. Fagans Historical Museum is considered one of the best museums of this type in Europe.

The territory for the construction of the museum in 1948 was provided by the beautiful castle of St. Fagans, built in the 16th century. It was his Italian garden that became the home of the Museum of Folk Life of Wales. One of the most interesting expositions of the museum is the completely reconstructed Celtic houses. They have a completely circular shape, as they are built around a support pole in the center. It, in turn, supports a wooden roof frame made of reed. The walls are made up of clay-smeared stew.

Among other architectural objects of the museum are the chapel, school, mill, pigsty and cattle pens and post office. Perhaps the most interesting for tourists is the interactive exposition, which demonstrates certain elements of the life of the ancient inhabitants of Wales. This is an operating forge and weaving workshop. They can look at the work of real people and buy just made souvenirs.
