Mount Avila
El Avila National Park, Venezuela 9.5 km V
Description:
From almost any street of Caracas you can see the famous mountain Avila. Before the arrival of the conquistadors, the mountain was home to many Indian tribes. Subsequently, the Spanish colonizers built a fortress on Avila to prevent the movement of pirates who hid in the mountains in order to avoid justice. Since 1958, the Venezuelan government has designated Mount Avila as a national park in order to preserve the diversity of wildlife and cultural and historical monuments.
One of the main local attractions on the mountain is the “Warairarepano” cable car. The climb on it lasts twenty minutes. During this time, the cabin of the funicular overcomes a distance of 3.5 kilometers and rises to a height of 1100 meters.
