Cathedral of Caracas

Venezuela, Caracas, Plaza Bolivar,

Description:

The Cathedral of Caracas is located on Bolivar Square, which is considered the main attraction of the city. Previously, this place was a church built in 1575, but after it was destroyed by an earthquake in 1641, the cathedral was rebuilt in 1664-1674.

The architectural forms of the cathedral surprise with beauty with external restraint and severity. The interior is very elegant, here you can see the amazing beauty of wall frescoes and the painting “Last Supper” by the famous Venezuelan artist Arturo Michelen.

In the cathedral cemetery are the graves of the parents and wife of the liberator of South America Simon Bolivar. In a small chapel belonging to the Bolivar family and located very close to the cathedral, there is a sculpture depicting the praying Bolivar family in its entirety.
