Island of Aves

Isla de Aves (Bird Island), Venezuela

Description:

Aves Island is a tiny island in the Caribbean Sea, whose area is 4.5 hectares. The height above sea level is only 4 meters, so the island was repeatedly completely covered with water during storms, and once after a strong hurricane in 1980, the island was literally divided into 2 parts. However, later the island became unified again due to the sand washed by currents. In this regard, the authorities are developing a project to strengthen Aves.

The island has no special strategic importance, because it is very dangerous for navigation. But Aves is a rare place where female green sea turtles lay eggs. On the island, research has been carried out recently, but the area is very promising due to its very rich marine flora and wildlife. By the way, the island is a wildlife reserve.

It should also be noted that there is a naval research base of Venezuela.
