New Year

Description:

Happy New Year!
Hungarians usually start celebrating the coming New Year the night before. According to the Catholic calendar, December 31 is the day of St. Sylvester, so the New Year holiday itself is often called simply Sylvester.

On a festive night, it is customary to make a lot of noise and have fun, as a rule, on the street, so shops and street tents sell a variety of tunes and horns all night long. There are also hot pork sausages sold all night, which are very popular among the holidaymakers.

For those who are having fun at home, a fried piglet is necessarily served on the festive table, which fortunately needs to twist its tail. But it is not customary to serve a bird or fish on the table, since there is a belief that then happiness can swim away or fly away.
