St. Anne's Cathedral
4032 Debrecen, Egyetem t r, Hungary
Description:
St. Anne's Cathedral is the main Protestant temple of Debrecen, Hungary, located at 1 Vargyol Street.
It was built in honor of St. Anne and her husband Joachim, who was Bishop of Debrecen in the first half of the 16th century. It may also be known as the Cathedral of the Virgin Mary. In 1288, the Reformation Congregation was established in Debrecen. The congregation was established as a church for men and women. This union was inspired by St. Francis of Assisi. This community was named St. Anna in honor of the Virgin Mary, who was his patron. Soon after, the first church was built in the city. By 1601, a second church was established.
The Cathedral consists of three rooms: on the ground floor there are two halls, both of which are consecrated by St. Anna, and in the right wing there is a prayer hall.
