Excursion from Budapest to Pec

Description:

In the morning, when we leave Budapest, we first go on the plain. Fast-flying kilometers, and suddenly there are mountains on the horizon. Sword Mountains. Their low ridges passing get to Pec, which is located on the southern slopes of these mountains.

But our first stop is even before Pec, in the village of Kakashd. Here we will see one amazing interesting work of the architect Imre Makovets, the Hungarian follower of the great Catalan Gaudí. Admire this fantastic building, in a small pastry shop next to drink coffee and continue on the road.

Pec is one of the most beautiful cities in Hungary.

Despite being one of the largest provincial cities in Hungary, the center is rich in medieval (sometimes ancient) sights. In the city there is one of the most magnificent cathedrals in the country, the Church of St. Bartholomew on Szecheny Square is also very famous, which was rebuilt from a Turkish jami into a Catholic church, while preserving the features of Muslim architecture.

The medieval Pec was built on the ruins of the Roman city of Sofiana. Catacombs (burials) of ancient Christians of the Roman Empire era are under the protection of UNESCO as part of the World Heritage.

Ancient cultural and religious center. During the period of Turkish rule (16th – 17th centuries), it turned into a lively “eastern” city. In this city preserved in Hungary most of the architectural monuments of the Muslim era. In the 19th century, during the period of industrial development, the city became handsome in the Austro-Hungarian style. (This expression was used by the New York Times recently, when Pécz called one of those places in Europe you must see.) In 2010, the city proudly bore the title of “Cultural Capital of Europe”.

Museums of Victor Vasarely (The artist belongs to the direction of constructivism). The creator of the Op-Art direction, Tivadar Chontvari-Kostka (known for fabulous and mystical landscapes), the Zolnai porcelain collection (for many Pecs is known as the birthplace of these very interesting, high technical and artistic level porcelain products), mining (stone corner and uranium were mined in the furnace) and other museums allow you to see a lot of beauty.

However, the most interesting “museum” is “Kvartal Zholnai”. One of the most famous porcelain factories in Hungary operates in Pec – the Zolnai factory. On the production of the now unoccupied areas of the plant there are museums representing the production of the porcelain factory, as well as the history of its creators - seven Zholnai, talented businessmen and artists. Also here you can see the collection of Laszlo Dudy, which presents magnificent masterpieces created at this factory in the late 19th and early 20th century. On the territory of the "Jolnai Quarter" there are also a puppet theater, a planetarium and other cultural institutions, and the Art Faculty of the Pec University operates here.

A wonderful place in the furnace is "Tette". Narrow picturesque streets rise on the Sword Mountains, from the chapel of the Virgin, which is near the ruins of a 16th-century Turkish monastery, a magnificent view of the city opens.

Near Pec is Kharkan, a very famous thermal resort.

Not far from Harkan are Mount Tenkes and the castle of Šiklos, here the events of the Hungarian historical series “Captain Tenkes” were played out.

On the way back to Budapest, you can make a stop in the famous “wine town” of Villan.
