1945 Revolution Day in Vietnam
Description:
The revolution was the result of the development of the national liberation movement in Vietnam, directed against the French colonialists who subordinated the country in the 50-80s of the 19th century and the Japanese invaders who occupied it in 1940.
On May 19, 1941, in accordance with the decision of the 8th Plenum of the Central Committee of the Indochina Communist Party (CPIK; since 1951 - the Party of Workers of Vietnam PTV), a unified national liberation front of the Viet Minh (League of Struggle for Independence of Vietnam) was created, in the ranks of which all the patriotic forces of the country rallied. Through the Viet Minh, the CPIC launched extensive propaganda activities in 1941-44 and began to create strongholds and armed detachments. On December 22, 1944, the first detachments of the Vietnam Liberation Army (later the People's Army of Vietnam) began to form in the province of Kaobang (North-East Vietnam).
After the coup of March 9, 1945, expressed in the liquidation of the French administration by the Japanese imperialists, the Viet Minh launched a broad guerrilla war against the Japanese occupiers. In April 1945, the Viet Minh Military Revolutionary Conference adopted a plan to prepare for a general uprising. On June 4, the Liberated District was formed in the territory of 6 provinces of North Vietnam with the center in the village of Tanchao (Tuyenquang province). On August 13-15, 1945, the CPIC held a national conference that decided to start a general uprising in Vietnam with the aim of gaining full independence and establishing popular power. The Insurrection Committee was established to guide the uprising. On August 16, the Viet Minh All-Vietnamese National Congress was held in Tanchao, which approved the decision to start a general uprising, elected the National Committee for the Liberation of Vietnam (led by Ho Chi Minh) and assigned this committee the functions of an interim government. At the call of the CPIK, the people all over the country rose to revolt on August 16-26. On August 19, the armed masses captured Hanoi, and on August 20, the People’s Revolutionary Committee of North Vietnam was established in the capital. Everywhere the rebellious people took power into their own hands. On August 24, Emperor Bao Dai, under the pressure of the revolutionary masses, was forced to abdicate. September 2, 1945 at 500 thousand. Ho Chi Minh, on behalf of the Provisional Government, solemnly proclaimed the Declaration of Independence of Vietnam and the formation of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (DRV).
The revolution took place under the hegemony of the working class, which allied itself with the peasantry, the national bourgeoisie and other patriotic forces that had rallied under the leadership of the CPIC in a single national liberation front of the Viet Minh. The August Revolution took place in the conditions of the Soviet Union’s defeat of German fascism in Europe and the victorious war of the Soviet Union against Japan, which made it easier for the Vietnamese people to achieve victory in the struggle against the French colonialists and Japanese invaders.
This revolution paved the way for a broad socio-economic transformation in Vietnam and had a great impact on the development of the national liberation movement in the countries of Southeast Asia, primarily in Laos and Cambodia.
