Temple of Literature in Hanoi

Vă n Miế u, ng a Hanoi, Vietnam

Description:

One of the oldest buildings of Hanoi – the Temple of Literature – was built in the city at the end of the XI century. The temple was designed to glorify the great Confucius, scientists and writers.

In order to continue the education of young minds that could bring glory to the country, in 1076, the first Vietnamese university opened here. The educational complex consists of several independent buildings. In the center of the courtyard there is a pond of Heavenly Forces.

The most famous exhibits of the temple of science are 82 stone steles, on which the names of students who received a doctorate in the walls of the university are stamped. Nearby are other steles – stone turtles, which represent wisdom and guard the entrance to the main hall of the Temple of Literature.
