Long Bien Bridge

Long Bien Bridge, Hang Bồ, Long Biê n, Hanoi, Vietnam

Description:

“Hanoi” means “surrounded by a river”, it is a city of ponds, lakes, rivers and bridges. Long Bien Bridge is one of them. It was built in 1902 during the French occupation. It was the first steel bridge across the Red River and was one of the four largest bridges in the world. The bridge was bombed for several decades during the French and American occupation. Long Bien is a living historical relic.

Today it is one of five bridges across the Red River. It is a cantilever structure with a length of 2.5 kilometers. Traffic passes through other, more modern bridges. Long Bien is used exclusively for pedestrians and two-wheelers. It is the only bridge in Hanoi with a small market.

On Long Bien you can take a leisurely walk and taste the delicious desserts offered by street vendors. From the bridge opens a picturesque panorama of the city, here you can admire the sunrise and sunset, as well as take good photos.
