West Lake Ho Tai

Like many attractions, the West Lake is shrouded in legends of its origin, and no one has a clear question about this.

According to one legend, on the site of the present lake once lived a fox with nine tails. She harmed local residents in every possible way, ruining their farms, killing livestock. Lac Long Quan, the Dragon King, decided to stop what was happening and filled the pest hole. Faces died, and in place of her lair appeared a beautiful lake.

According to another legend, the golden buffalo, hearing the call of his mother, was so eager to her that he knocked out a huge hole with his hoof, in which the lake appeared.

Anyway, West Lake is one of the most beautiful places in Vietnam. And this can be appreciated not only by local residents and visiting tourists, but also by the royals, who were happy to rest here. Due to the fact that the reservoir was especially loved by kings and their families, many palaces, temples and pagodas were erected around the lake.

Today, West Lake is a favorite place for both locals and travelers. The Hanoi call the lake a “date place.” This is probably because absolutely everything here is set up in a romantic way: wonderful sunsets and dawns, mirrored water surface, cozy restaurants of the surrounding area, where you can taste traditional Vietnamese cuisine. And you can admire the lake not only from the shore, but also by arranging a walk on a catamaran with your second half.
