Biosphere Reserve “Kanzo Mangrove Forests”
kanzo district, the mouth of the Saigon River, 50 km southeast of the center of Ho Chi Minh City
Description:
Not far from Ho Chi Minh City is the entrance to a biosphere reserve called the Kanzo Mangrove Forest (also known as Wamsat). The main reason for the creation of the reserve was the devastating Vietnam War. Work began four years after the end of the conflict, in 1979, and continues to this day.
Thanks to the titanic work, today the reserve covers an area of 75,740 hectares, inhabited by seventy species of exotic birds and animals. The main representatives of the flora are difficult-to-pass mangrove thickets, consisting of low (no more than 10 meters in height) evergreen trees and branching shrubs.
The main types of tourist entertainment in the Kanzo reserve are direct communication with local animals, fishing for crocodiles and fishing for crabs. There is also a bird reserve here.
