Ho Chi Minh City Airport

Description:

Ho Chi Minh City Airport is the largest and most important airport in Vietnam, located 6 kilometers north of downtown Ho Chi Minh City.

The airport was built in the 1930s by the French colonial government. Initially, it was a small airport with unpaved landing strips. In 1956, the US bought it and built terminals and a new runway about two kilometers long, making it the South Vietnam International Airport.

Ho Chi Minh City Airport provides more than half of the country’s total passenger air traffic. It is located within the city, not near the city. Literally leaving the arrival terminal you will find yourself on city streets.

The airport accommodates 15-17 million passengers per year. The aircraft depart from two runways, each over 3 kilometers long.
