Devon House Mansion

26 Hope Rd, Kingston, Jamaica

Description:

Devon House, located in the northern part of Kingston, once belonged to the first Jamaican millionaire - African-American George Stiebel.

Deciding to continue his father’s trading business, George took a risk and invested in abandoned mines in Venezuela, where gold was later found. In 1879, he bought 53 acres of land, where he built a magnificent house in the English colonial style.

Now the house houses a museum that tells about the successful inhabitants of the island, and its exhibits are items purchased by the first owner of the house, including a collection of Jamaican, British and French antiques.

In the vicinity of the house there is a park where you can visit restaurants, shops and buy copies of things from the Stiebel collection and much more.
