Ocho Rios

St. Cove. Anne

St Ann's Bay, and a few kilometers from Ocho Rios towards the west.

Description:

The bay of St. Anna, located near the resort of Ocho Rios, is largely historical. It was to its shores that Columbus arrived, first arriving in Jamaica.

Once the bay of St. Anne was one of the most developed areas on the island - thanks to the port, through which goods ranging from bananas and bauxite were delivered to the island. It was in this place in 1795 that the first prison appeared on the island - a former fortress built in 1750, which significantly increased the status of the city.

Arriving here, you can visit the abandoned port, visit the Church of St. George. Anne, built in 1871, as well as a statue of Christopher Columbus, erected in honor of the opening of the bay and located near the main traffic interchange of the city, as well as a statue dedicated to one of the most famous citizens of Jamaica - an activist of the Negro movement for equality and liberation from oppression - Marcus Garvey, born here in 1887.
