Nippon Maru Memorial Park

2-1-1 Minatomirai, Nishi Ward, Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan

Description:

The Nippon Maru Memorial Park is a place where visitors can take a tour of the Nippon Maru, called the Pacific Swan, and the Maritime Museum, which tells about the history of Yokohama Port.

The Nippon Maru, built in 1930, was a posh ship of its time, which the Americans were going to take as a trophy after the war, but it miraculously remained in Japan. In 54 years, the Nippon Maru has traveled 988,000 miles, which means it has travelled 46 times around the world.

Since the "Nippon-maru" is a working ship, there are no large memorial halls here - on a ship in a cubicle you can admire the tucked beds, go to the radio room and see cadets snooping on the cables and washing the deck.

After diving into ship life, you can learn a lot about the history of navigation by visiting the Maritime Museum, located near the ship.
