Description:

The Peace Park in the Japanese city of Nagasaki is a memorial built in honor of the victims of the nuclear bombing of the city in 1945.

In the center of the park is a 10-meter monument, named by its author Seibō Kitamura, a statue of peace. Every year, a ceremonial procession takes place at the monument, where the mayor of Nagasaki reads the Declaration of World Peace. The monument was erected in 1955, a little later, in 1969, a memorial fountain was installed in the park. A table is engraved on the fountain, which describes the fate of people who consumed radiation-contaminated water and received radiation sickness.

In 1978, the city authorities decided to build in the park a lot of sculptures, symbols of peace, from each sister city and from many other countries honoring the world.
