Glover Garden
Japan Nagasaki-ken, Nagasaki-shi, Minamiyamatemachi.
Description:
In Japan, in the city of Nagasaki, there is a beautiful garden founded by Scottish entrepreneur Thomas Blake Glover. It is called the Glover Garden and is an open-air museum.
On the territory of the garden is the oldest European building in Japan - the house of Glover and the mansions of Europeans who lived in Nagasaki in the XIX century. The garden stretches on the slope of the Dutch hill (Minamiyamate hill), from where wonderful landscapes of the city and the harbor open.
In 1863 the main structure of the garden was built. The architecture of the Glover House combines elements of Japanese and European styles. It looks like a one-story bungalow. European elements are lattice arches, French windows and a stone floor on the veranda, and the tiled roof and statues of demons in the corners, warding off evil spirits are trends of Japanese style.
The garden houses the stone gates of the Masonic Lodge of Nagasaki. The garden is full of green spaces, lined with stone tiles and is among the architectural monuments of Japan.
