About the company:
The Shusaku Endo Literary Museum is located in Sotoma, northwestern part of the Japanese city of Nagasaki. The museum exhibits are dedicated to the work and life of the great and outstanding Japanese writer and poet Shusaku Endo.
Sotome in narrow circles is known as the birthplace of Nagasaki Christians, and is the area in which the actions of Endo Shusaku’s novel “Silence” took place. The writer himself was a Catholic.
The Endo Museum was established here in 2000. The exhibits are represented by the writer’s books, his manuscripts, photographs, letters, favorite things such as his favorite desk, rosary, Bible and statuette of the Holy Virgin Mary, which the author inherited from his mother. The statuette all his life stood at the head of his bed.
From the place where the museum is located, there is an unforgettable view of the island of Goto, as well as the village of Shitsu, where the monument to Silence, the novel by Shusaku Endo, stands.
