About the company:

The Siebold Memorial Museum is located in the Japanese city of Nagasaki, and was established in 1989, in honor of the famous scientist Philip Franz von Siebold. Siebold made the greatest contribution to the development of modern science in Japan.

The museum building was built behind the model of the scientist’s house, located in Leiden, and is located near the place where the clinic and boarding school of the scientist called Narutaki Yuku originally operated.

The museum has 206 exhibits, which are divided into 6 categories. Each category describes Philip Siebold’s 6-year stay in Nagasaki, during the famous Siebold Incident, and his contribution to the development of Japan. Also on display are the family tree of the scientist, the belongings of his wife, Japanese Taki, and his daughter Ine, who became the first female doctor in Japan.
