Nara is the second city after Kyoto for travelers to explore in Kansai. There are 8 UNESCO heritage sites. One of the most historically significant temples in Japan, Todai-ji, built in the 8th century as the main Buddhist temple of all provincial Buddhist temples, and became so significant that the capital of Nara was moved to Kyoto to reduce its influence on state affairs.
The symbol of Nara became deer-considered divine messengers.
