Tour of Nikko: the sacred place of Japan

Description:

A walk in the company of a guide through the Shinto shrine will enrich you with new knowledge and impressions

Nikko is a sacred and at the same time incredibly picturesque corner of the Land of the Rising Sun. Here the pristine nature harmoniously coexists with the rich history and authentic culture of Japan. Book a tour at an attractive price from Tokyo and, accompanied by an experienced guide, touch the local treasures.

The Shinto temple of Toshogu is considered the pearl of these places. Here lies Ieyasu Tokugawa, the founder of the shogunate of the same name, who ruled the country for more than two centuries. The Toshogu temple is named after the shogun’s heavenly name, Tosho Daigongen (“Great Deity of the Oriental World”). At the very beginning, the mausoleum was modest and simple, but the grandson of the ruler, Tokugawa Iemitsu, turned it into a stunning architectural ensemble that impresses numerous tourists today.

Important locations on excursions to Nikko:

  • The sacred Shinkyo Bridge, named in memory of a miraculous incident involving a monk. The beautiful crossing is one of the most picturesque in the country;
  • The Imperial Villa will allow you to feel the aura of apartments of the Japanese aristocracy. Shugakuin did not belong to the official residences of the ruling family: Emperor Go-Mizunoo built it as a place for private rest;
  • Asakusa Station will be the final point of the 1-day program.
