Nikko

Description:

Nikko National Park is a huge natural complex, on the territory of which there are magnificent mountains, waterfalls, forests, lakes, as well as architectural monuments - Buddhist temples and Shinto shrines. Since the 8th century, Nikko has been the religious center of Buddhism and Shintoism. It was this place that the great commander and unifier of Japan Tokugawa Ieyasu chose for the construction of his mausoleum. On the territory of Toshō-gu there is a magnificent Yomeimon Gate. Here you can see the famous image of the “three monkeys”. Their postures are illustrations of three popular philosophical propositions: “I see no evil, I say no evil, I hear no evil.” The word Nikko, written in hieroglyphics meaning “sunshine,” has become synonymous with splendor in Japanese.
