Himeiji Castle

68 Honmachi, Himeji, Hyogo Prefecture

Description:

Himeiji Castle (or in translation - the Castle of the white heron) was built at the end of the XVI century and belonged to Toyotomi Hideyoshi.

The castle occupies a large area and has eighty separate buildings. In architectural terms, the castle is designed in the traditional style of Japanese castles - fortifications are built so that the besieging castle will always fall under heavy fire of the defenders of the castle.

Himeiji Castle is one of the most beautiful and frequently visited castles in Japan. A visit to the castle does not leave indifferent even those who are not an ardent fan of history and antiquity.

In 1993, the castle was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
