Tokyo

Underground Temple of the Tokyo Flood Collector

Description:

Seventy-five percent of Japan’s territory is occupied by mountains, plain areas are surrounded by mountains and are in fact in a lowland that is permeated by a huge number of rivers that carry their waters into the ocean. With heavy precipitation, during seasonal typhoons, the water flows to flat areas, overflowing rivers and causing flooding, and sometimes real grafting. Especially significant is the area between the beds of the Edogawa and Arakawa rivers, located near Tokyo. This densely populated area was often flooded, and the government of Japan and the city of Tokyo decided to build a unique hydraulic structure designed to solve the problem of flooding in Tokyo.

We will visit this unique hydraulic structure, which will leave an indelible impression of human capabilities and modern technologies.
