Shibamata - Hidden corners of Tokyo
Description:
Shibamata is one of my favorite places in Tokyo. Although it is a fairly well-known point for tourists to visit, but being on the outskirts of the city, large crowds of people passed it. Therefore, the place remains in its quiet and calm, which allows it to maintain its color. At the station "Sibamata" we will be greeted by the monument "Tora-san" hero of the serial film, the filming ground of which was Shibamata. We will walk along the shopping street "Sibamata Sando", where you can taste local delicacies, and feel the atmosphere of the old city. It should be noted that the trade there is not focused on the visiting tourist, so many souvenirs by Tokyo standards will be unusual in contrast to the set that you will find, for example, in Asakusa. The pearl of the temple is the sanctuary "Sibamata Tayasakuten" This is a temple with a pavilion decorated with beautiful handmade carvings. The panels depict scenes describing the contents of the Buddhist Lotus Sutra. We will walk through the Japanese garden, where in the shade we can admire the rare birds nesting in the garden, drinking green tea. After the temple, we will walk through residential areas and get to the bank of the Edo River, where the last boat crossing between the prefectures of Tokyo and Chiba still operates.
The next point of the route “Ginza Janaka” is also a very famous, but not yet chosen to the extreme extent of the shopping street in the “old city”. As in Shibamata, souvenirs here are unusual. The history of the town begins in the middle of the 16th century, when the shogun capital of Edo (now Tokyo) began to be rebuilt and in this area there was a huge number of temples and residences, attracting a large number of craftsmen who built them, who began to settle nearby. Subsequent damage from the great earthquake of 1923 and later bombings during the Second World War caused minor damage, preserving many monuments.
These places are full of museums. We will be able to finish our tour by visiting the National Museum in Ueno Park, where you can see Japanese clinics, imperial kimonos and other art objects.
