Construction of the Kyoto Tower began in 1963. Initially, there was a lot of debate about whether the construction of such a structure in the ancient Japanese capital. Some believed that the tower would disfigure the city, others believed that the tower would certainly become a landmark. However, the builders were not interested in these issues, and on December 28, 1964, the Kyoto Tower was inaugurated.
