Description:

Mount Takao-san is located in the Meiji Memorial Park, in the city of Hachioji, 50 kilometers from Tokyo towards Fujima. Despite the small height - only about 600 m, from the top of Takao-san offers a beautiful view of the surrounding area and Mount Fuji.

Since Mount Takao-san rises at the very border of the subtropical zone and the temperate climate zone, many plants, amazing trees and shrubs grow on its slopes.

The trail leads up through the Monkey Garden, where several dozen species of monkeys live in natural conditions, past a tree known to tourists, whose roots resemble the tentacles of an octopus: according to legend, the tree itself rolled up the roots so as not to interfere with the construction of a road to the top of the mountain.

Climbing by foot, cable car or funicular, you will have the opportunity to see the Buddhist temple Yakuo-in, built in 744, and restored in the 14th century.

Takao-san is a very popular place for hiking and tourism. This place is visited by more than 2.5 million people per year.
