Temple of the Young" Pale Grass

Description:

The Buddhist "temple of young, pale grass" - Senso-ji - is dedicated to Kannon, the goddess of mercy in Japanese mythology, whose small statue was caught in the Sumida River by local fishermen in the distant VII century. Located in the Tokyo district of Asakusa, the temple is a center of attraction for pilgrims and tourists from all over the world.

To get to Senso-ji, you need to take the Ginza line to Asakusa metro station, and then walk a little along Kaminarimon-dori.

The impressive red gate with a huge lantern 4 meters high and more than 3 meters in diameter is the “Gates of Thunder”, the southern entrance. From the gate to the temple leads Nakamise-dori, one of the oldest shopping streets in Tokyo, there are 89 shops where you can buy a variety of Japanese sweets and souvenirs.

The main building of the temple complex Senso-ji consists of two sanctuaries: in the exterior you can see the paintings of the artist Domoto Insho, and in the interior you can see the same statue of the goddess Kannon. In addition to the main building, you should pay attention to the majestic five-storey pagoda.

On the territory of Senso-ji, a procession in honor of the Bodhisattva Kannon is held annually, as well as the most popular festival in Tokyo - the Hagoit Fair, the Racket Fair.
