Kiyosumi Garden
Japan Koto Ward, Tokyo Kiyosumi 3-chome 9
Description:
Kiyosumi Garden is located in Fukugawa, Tokyo, and is a traditional Japanese-style garden. It covers an area of approximately 81,000 square meters, and was founded in 1875-1885 at the direction of Iwasaki Yataro, the largest industrialist in the Meiji era, one of the founders of the Mitsubishi brand.
The garden is located near a huge pond, on which there are three islands and a tea house. Around the shore of the reservoir, a walking path is laid, surprising visitors to the garden with local beauty. From the bustling streets of the suburbs of Tokyo, the garden is separated by a narrow strip of plantations of trees and shrubs. In the pond of the garden live turtles, carp and a large number of birds - gulls, ducks, herons, arriving here from the Sumida River.
Also, the uniqueness of the garden gives stones. The entire Iwatari family searched all over the country for water-drawn and beautiful large cobblestones and boulders, which were then brought here by the Mitsubishi steamers. Dry waterfalls, artificial hills and shallow paths were built from boulders. In the garden there are so many boulders and stone blocks that it is sometimes called the garden of stones.
