Kyu Furukawa Garden
Kyu-Furukawa Gardens, Japan 東 京 都 北 区 99 ヶ 原 1-27-39
Description:
Kyu Furukawa is the most beautiful garden in Tokyo. It was created in the early XX century by Japanese businessman Furukawa Itipei.
The garden was set up on the grounds of the Mutsu family estate, which Furukawa Ichibei took over after he adopted Mutsu Junkichi, the son of Japan’s foreign minister. On the territory of the estate was also built a house in the European style. The garden was designed by the famous garden master Ogawa Jihei.
The basis of the composition was a pond in the form of the hieroglyph “heart”. The banks of the pond are densely planted with trees and shrubs, which gives this place an atmosphere of calm and privacy. The best view of the Kyu Furukawa garden opens with rocky shoals on the north side of the pond.
