Tokyo Bay
Description:
Tokyo Bay stretches from north to south Tokyo for 60 kilometers, and from west to east for 40 kilometers. On the bay is the largest metropolitan area of Tokyo with a population of 33 million people.
Tokyo Bay connects Cape Tsurugi of the Miura Peninsula and Cape Su of the Boso Peninsula. The total area of space is 1,320 square kilometers. The Tsurumi, Tama, Edo and Ara rivers flow into the bay. Previously, many artificial islands were built on the bay, among which the only natural island of Saru stands out.
The largest ports of the Gulf are the ports of Tokyo, Yokohama, Chiba, Yokosuki, Kawasaki and Kisarazu. The bay is also an important transport and trade hub. The Aqua Line tunnel passes through the cities of Kisazar and Kawasaki, and ferries connect both banks of the Uragawa Strait.
Here, on September 2, 1945, on board the USS Missouri, the act of surrender of Japan was signed, ending World War II.
