Museum of Money

Bank of Japan Annex Building, Nihonbashi-Hongokucho, Chuo-ku

About the company:

To celebrate the centenary of the Bank of Japan, the Tokyo Money Museum was founded in 1982. Since its inception, it has been under the patronage of the Institute for Monetary and Economic Research, which collects and studies samples of coins and banknotes from around the world. In addition to scientific and practical purposes, the museum is engaged in educational work, organizing exhibitions and new exhibitions as part of an educational program for children of all ages.

Many prominent numismatists took part in the creation of the museum, who provided some of their coins for exhibitions. One of the most generous collectors who donated their materials to the Tokyo Money Museum was Keibun Tanaka. In 2002, the full collection of antique gold and silver coins of the Bank of Japan was transferred to the museum.
