South Africa, Western Cape Province, Sutherland

Description:

Tankwa-Karu National Park, in South Africa, belongs to a number of scientific research areas. It is located 70 km from Sutherland on the border of the Northern and Western Cape provinces.

The territory of the park is considered the driest in Africa. The administrative buildings of the reserve are located on the banks of the Renoster River in the old building. There are tourists nearby.

Tankva-Karu is famous for its rare species of plants, a variety of birds, and the most beautiful views of the local landscape. The plant world is mainly represented by dwarf and ordinary prickly shrubs. The end of summer the beginning of autumn is the ideal time to observe the nesting of birds (drophs, larks, sparrows and others).

The territory of the park is constantly expanding, so in 1986 the area of the reserve was 2.6 thousand hectares, and by 2010 it was increased to 140 thousand hectares.

In 1998, sheep were purchased by the park. For animals, ideal living conditions were created, as close as possible to the natural habitat.
