Museum mansion Melrose House

Melrose House Museum, Thabo Sehume Street, Pretoria 0002, South Africa

About the company:

The stately Melrose House is named after the Swiss Abbey of Melrose. Its construction was completed in 1886. Three years later, the Second Boer War broke out and Pretoria was captured by the British army led by Lord Roberts. Melrose House remained the headquarters of the British invaders until the end of the war. It was in Melrose House that the agreement was signed, which served as the end of the military conflict.

Today, Melrose House is a state museum. Its interior is made in a superb Victorian style and generously decorated with bright stained glass windows, decorative fireplaces and ceilings. Here are exhibited paintings of famous English artists. Of particular interest are valuable porcelain products.
