Peacekeeper's Day in South Ossetia
Description:
On July 14, 1992, on the basis of the Agreement on the Basic Principles of Settlement of the Georgian-Ossetian Conflict, which was signed by the heads of Russia, Georgia, North and South Ossetia on June 24, 1992, tripartite peacekeeping forces entered the zone of the Georgian-Ossetian conflict. They were a buffer between the opposing parties.
It is believed that thanks to the deployment of peacekeepers, the fighting, which lasted three years and claimed hundreds of lives, was stopped. Today, peacekeepers are the main guarantor of peace in the conflict zone.
Celebratory events are held on this day. Among them are parades of peacekeepers, in which in previous years the Georgian battalion of the SSPM took part, demonstrations, solemn meetings and concerts.
