Day of Remembrance of Victims of the Eredic Tragedy in South Ossetia
Description:
This tragedy, which still does not heal, lives in the hearts of not only the direct witnesses of this inhuman act. The tragedy deeply shook the hearts of the current younger generation of Ossetians.
During the Georgian aggression, many war crimes were committed that surpassed the war crimes of Nazi Germany in cruelty and cynicism. One of these crimes was committed by the Georgian government against the Ossetian people on March 18, 1991.
On March 18, 1991, Georgian armed forces seized a truck with Ossetian civilians heading to their villages. After brutal tortures and abuses, 12 people were buried alive in one, which became for them a mass grave in the village of Yeredvi. To find the burial site and identify the dead was possible only two years later, in 1993.
