Lake Cariba

Zambia, Southern Province

Description:

Lake Kariba is the largest reservoir in Africa, formed after the construction of a hydroelectric power plant in the middle course of the Zambezi River, in the southern province of Zambia. Its waters not only provide electricity to a part of the population of Zambia and neighboring Zimbabwe, but also provide a source of fishing for both industrial and local people.

This is a great place for fishing, boating water sports. Here you can do a full active rest or just bask in the sun. The weather on the shores of the lake is mostly sunny, but not hot. Midsummer can be quite hot, but even in winter the days are warm and the nights are pleasantly cool.

Coastal hotels are an ideal place for a romantic holiday, you can admire truly magical sunrises and sunsets, and the huge expanses of water are not inferior to the ocean.

Sports fishing is well developed here, and in coastal towns you can rent a boat and fishing gear. The annual Tiger Fishing competition is held in Sinazongwe, attracting participants from all over the subcontinent.

Excursion to the dam of the hydroelectric power plant gives you the opportunity to look at the colossal water difference between the reservoir and the rocky gorge, which is breathtaking.
