Defense Forces Day in Zimbabwe

Description:

Defense Forces Day
August 12 is Zimbabwe Defensive Forces Day. For more than 25 years, these troops have shown outstanding performance. It was thanks to Zimbabwe’s defensive forces that Zimbabwe defended its hard-won independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity. Zimbabwe’s defense forces have reason to celebrate.

Meanwhile, the formation of Zimbabwe’s defense forces was a daunting task, as it involved the integration of three seemingly incompatible and even conflicting armies: the Zimbabwe African National Liberation Army (ZANLA), the Zimbabwe People’s Revolutionary Army (ZIPRA), and the Rhodesia Army. Following the successful completion of the integration process, the government designated the day following National Heroes Day as Zimbabwe Defensive Forces Day.

Soon after its inception, Zimbabwe’s defense forces showed remarkable achievements, both locally and internationally. Their achievements include the successful maintenance of peace, tranquility and stable conditions that are so important for social and economic development.
