Christmas

Description:

Christmas
For most people in Zimbabwe, Christmas Day begins with a church service. But the most joyful moment for most residents comes after the service: people leave the church and go to the house on foot, on the way to visit friends, acquaintances, relatives and neighbors. Sometimes it can take the rest of the day!

In each house guests are welcomed, seated at the table. It is customary to exchange gifts during such visits. It is customary to give cards as well. But Christmas cards instead of snow and Santa Claus depict African drawings and images of wild animals.

Many people take speakers to the street in front of the house and delight those passing by with their favorite music, and not only Christmas, but also ethnic – in general, who is proud of what. The music is being played very loudly here!

Christmas in Zimbabwe is also a good occasion to showcase beautiful new clothes. Only the main room is decorated at Christmas. Most families prefer ivy to the Christmas tree, which decorates the entire upper part of the room.

The traditional festive dish is chicken and rice. Chicken is considered a very expensive food, so most families only eat it at Christmas.

But for most people, Christmas, or rather its traditional understanding, is an occasion to think about the Lord and how through him humanity received the greatest gift of all – life.
