Berat City Museum

Berat is located seventy kilometers south of the capital of Albania. The city is famous for its official status as a museum city since 1961. The number of historical monuments here exceeds two hundred. Among the sights of Berat are several mosques of the XV-XIX centuries, stone arched bridges of the XVII century. But the main monument of architecture is the citadel, built in the XIII century along the mountain range and towering not only over the river bed, but also over the whole city.

Visiting the citadel is a must for newlyweds who come here from all over the country, and sometimes theatrical wedding ceremonies are held right here. Inside the fortress there is also a historical museum and several ancient temples. Berat is famous for the fact that at the end of the XIX century it was the center of the national Albanian movement for independence from the Ottoman Empire.
