Army Day in Armenia

Armenian ArmyIn 1991, by the decision of the Government of the Republic of Armenia, the State Defense Committee (under the Council of Ministers) was established, and on December 5, Vazgen Sargsyan was appointed Minister of Defense by the order of the President of the Republic of Armenia.

On January 28, 1992, a historic decision “On the Defense of the Republic of Armenia” was made, thereby announcing the creation of the Armenian National Army.

As defense minister, the current president of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, described the army’s path as follows:

Our army, having undergone in a short historical period severe trials of wars and the peaceful building of an army, has become tempered and has become the main guarantor of our independence and is a source of pride and inspiration.
