Day of Social Worker in Armenia
Description:
At the same time, the head of the Ministry of Social Workers informed that about 4 thousand social workers of Armenia will celebrate the new holiday.
As stated in the decision of the government, the first Republic of Armenia since its foundation (in 1918) faced the most difficult social problems: universal poverty, hunger, numerous refugees and orphans, mass mortality of the population from diseases.
“The situation could be overcome only by mobilizing all forces and by pursuing a precise and consistent social policy. As early as November 4, 1918, the coalition government of the First Republic formed the Ministry of Public Guardianship, which laid the foundation for the state policy of social protection of the population.
After the Sovietization of Armenia, the social sphere continued to be one of the main directions of state policy, and the field of the devastating earthquake of 1988, which was subsequently added to the blockade, the influx of refugees, the energy crisis, unemployment, and an unprecedentedly high level of poverty, was subjected to especially severe tests.
In the early 1990s, the first specialized structures for providing social assistance to the population were formed in independent Armenia, and the social sphere is one of the priorities of state policy today.
