Christmas in Armenia

Description:

He was born in a cave and placed in a manger.
Until the fifth century, all Christian churches celebrated the feast of the Nativity of Christ and Baptism on January 6. Later, some churches began to celebrate Holy Christmas on December 25, so that people forgot the pagan holiday celebrated on this day.

The Armenian Church has remained faithful to the old order and celebrates Christ’s birthday on January 6. On this day, the Armenian Church also celebrates the day of the Baptism of Christ.

On the eve of the feast of Holy Christmas, in the evening there is a liturgy called the Liturgy of Christmas Eve. On this day, believers light a candle in the church and carry it home, to light the house and prepare for the feast of the Nativity of Christ.

The next day, January 6, the Christmas Liturgy is celebrated in the morning. Then carry out the feast of the baptism of Christ with the ceremony of consecration of water.
