Vardanank (St. Vardanants)

Description:

The Battle of Avarayr (Hud. G. Khanjian)
A memorable day for Armenians is Vardanank (St. Vardanants) - Day of mercy and national tribute to the heroes, celebrated in memory of the defeat of the Armenian troops led by Vardan Mamikoyan in the battle with the Persian army on the Avarayr field.

In this war, the Persians intended to convert the Armenians to paganism by force. However, having won and suffered huge losses, they abandoned their intention. The Armenians preserved the Christian faith, defending it with arms in their hands.

Officially, this holiday is celebrated in Armenia on Thursday, 8 weeks before the holiday of Holy Easter.
