This is one of the most popular routes of interest to tourists visiting Armenia for the first time.
This tour has 3 destinations:
The first stop with a magnificent view of the Azat reservoir.
Next stop is the cave monastery of the early XIII century. Geghard is a monastery of a spear, which according to legend Christ was pierced. Inspection of a unique cave temple (carved into the rock), which has interesting acoustics. By the way, I will sing one of the church chants for my guests. At the foot of the monastery, tourists can buy the Gegar gata (national delicious cake) and sweet sujukh, prunes, dried apricots, etc.
We're heading for Garni Gorge. This is an amazing place: over the surface of the earth hang huge pillars ranging in height from 50 to 100 meters in different shades and with a peculiar slope. Looking at the impeccably flat edges of these huge five and hexagonal boulders, it is difficult to believe that they were created by nature, and not specifically carved by man. Locals called this place the “Symphony of Stones” or “Basalt Organ” because of its similarity to the musical instrument of the same name. All these polyhedrons were formed as a result of volcanic activity. According to the laws of physics, any viscous liquid with uniform and strong heating from below decays into hexagonal cells of Benard. In other words, lava shrinks, cracks, and then breaks down into multifaceted columns. The scientific name of this geological formation is a columnar separation.
And finally, Garnie! Garni Temple is the only preserved monument on the territory of Armenia belonging to the era of paganism and Hellenism. The fortress on the steep cape above the Azat River was laid in some very ancient times, Argishti I, king of Urartu in the VIII century BC, more precisely, in 782 BC from Garni with 6600 troops went south in search of fertile lands and from the point of view of political and military benefits. He climbed one of the lowland hills and exclaimed: “Saw”, which means Erebuni and built on this hill a powerful fortress Erebuni – today’s Yerevan.
