Geghard Monastery in Armenia (Yerevan) is a world-famous rock landmark next to a mountain river, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You can get to the monastery by taxi or personal car (40 km from the capital in the southeast direction).
The key element is represented by the monastery courtyard, from which along the paths and steps you can go to view other rooms with the remains of ancient frescoes and decorative ornaments. There are souvenir shops near the monastery territory. A visit to Geghard can be supplemented by an excursion to the nearby pagan temple Garni.
