Asia

Moreover, they can even be returned, since quality service is considered the standard here.

Tipping is not common in China and may be prohibited in some places. The locals sincerely do not understand why tourists try to thank the waiter who already receives a decent salary, instead of giving money to, for example, a janitor or a tram driver. The exception is porters - they can leave 1-2 yuan, as their earnings are really small.

In Thailand, India and the Philippines, small tips are welcome. So, maids are usually given 20–50 baht (about 0.5–1.5 dollars), porters – about 20 baht, and in restaurants they leave about 10% if this is not included in the bill.

In the Middle East, tipping traditions may vary by country, but in general tipping is considered an important part of the service culture and is welcomed in many areas.
