How to go to the border of wounds from Phuket to Malaysia?

My husband and I left for Thailand from Vladivostok at the end of November 2022. We've been living for 3 months now.

Initially, we were going to apply for a student visa to live in the country for a year, but the price tags skyrocketed, and we decided that for now we will live on the border wounds - when you cross the border of Thailand with another country and return on the same day. Thus, it is possible to update the stamp, which citizens of Russia put for 45 days. In other words, only this time can be in the country.

How to go to the border of wounds from Phuket to Malaysia? We did go and even come back. They say not everyone is allowed back, but more on that.

First, we started Google helpers, people who smuggle organized groups across borders for money.

The most budget option with our phuket This is the land border with Malaysia.

How much are the help companies?

Firms charge from 3400 baht (7100 rubles at the current rate) per person for the bus, including meals.

+ 1500 baht (3100 rubles) per person at the border (this is a type of bribe to go in and out day in and day out, take it absolutely always and from everyone who wants to update their stamp day in and day out).

In total, with help, we would have 9800 baht for two, which is 20300 rubles.

We decided it was expensive, we started Googled how to go on our own. We found a detailed instruction from 19 years, according to which we went, it turned out to be relevant. This is a border wound across Sadao Point near the border town of Dunnock, which we had to get to.

How and when to buy tickets?

First we went to the bus station to get tickets. We were going to take the bus, but there were no tickets for that day. We took the Phuket-Dannock ticket for the morning of January 3 9:15. The trip admired the beauty of Thailand, almost all the way there was mobile Internet, the bus has Wi-Fi and air conditioning, it is easy to go.

Tip: Buy tickets the day before your trip. And the best time is still 21:15, go 8 hours, at night you can sleep on the bus and arrive at 5 am, to the very opening of the border.

Crossing the Thai border in Sadao

We arrived at Dunnak around 18 p.m., thought we'd be back, so we bought a 21 p.m. ticket to Phuket at the Hat Yai stop for 800 baht (1,600 rubles) to sit down. But they bought it in vain because they never came back.

The bus stops a kilometer from the border, from this place about 15 minutes walk.

At the border, things didn’t go very well, because we thought that January 3 from our arrival on November 19 was exactly 45 days, but in fact this day did not enter and we were slapped with a fine of 500 baht per person for overhangs. Directly put a stamp in the passport with such a registration. In general, there is nothing terrible, but it is better not to allow overstage and leave a couple of days before the stamp ends.

Further, a man invited her husband to leave the border service building and said, as if unofficially, that if we want to go out and go in that day we need to pay 2,000 baht per person (for 4200 rubles, 8400 for two). We refused and said something like, ‘Guys, then take a few days in Malaysia.’ And we went for a walk in the Malaysian border town of Changlong.

Crossing the Malaysian border

We crossed the border in Malaysia quickly and easily. Since we were walking in the evening and Thailand was an hour away from Malaysia, Malaysia was an hour late and we were hanging out at the border almost at 9pm.

I was very upset because I didn’t want to go to Malaysia at all. I have not prepared for this option.

Travel in Malaysia - Changlong

We went to Malaysia and started looking for hotels on the map, found in 15 minutes, decided that we would not take a taxi (and it could be caught at the border), we will walk. Google Maps worked offline, because of course we had no connection.

We walked along the highway with a flashlight because in Malaysia the roads are not lit at all in the evening. We came to a dark area with houses, and it turned out that our hotel is not a hotel, but a house, no one is on duty, and we have no communication, how not to contact the owner. And the nearest hotels are 1.5 hours on foot along a dark road in the city, and we have no communication and there is really no one on the streets.

I got hysterical and started crying and saying I didn’t want to spend the night outside. Apparently, the locals heard us and decided to help. First they tried to find the owner of the house, then offered a ride to the hotel. Of course, we agreed, asked if we could pay in baht, they did not take money from us at all. What wonderful people, God give them health.

How much does a hotel in Changlong cost?

We went to the hotel and asked how much it would cost 2 nights, they cost about 1000 baht (2100 rubles) in this hotel. We had $100, 2,000 baht in cash and a bank card in Thailand. None of this suited the hotel, and the exchange was already closed.

Fortunately, another hotel was nearby, in which cards were accepted, but the room cost 2,000 baht (4300 rubles) for two days. And we had to leave a deposit of 50 ringgit (815 rubles), we were allowed to leave it the next day. We paid with a card and stayed in a small room with a tropical shower.

What to do in Changlong?

In the morning, we went to the exchange, exchanged 1,000 baht for 120 Malaysian ringgit, paid bail and went looking for food. We found a cafe 15 minutes on foot again on the road. They barely reached because it was unbearably hot, and it turned out that the cafe was closed at 10:40, since it was open from 11 a.m. On the way we saw Pizza Hut, so we went there for breakfast.

We spent the whole day at the hotel, as I had to work, in the evening we went to the cafe near the hotel for dinner and took a walk around the area. At 6 a.m. we got up and decided to cross the border back.

In general, the impressions of Malaysia remained mixed, the light in the evening is almost nowhere, darkens at 7 p.m. The treatment of tourists in this city is not very friendly, as if we have to be with the local money and know everything. The streets smell unpleasant sewers, very hot, dirty, but in general the town is quite developed, a lot of cafes, shops with all sorts of things, hotels and houses for rent.

On the morning of November 5, we asked the hotel administrator to order us a taxi, it cost, of course, not cheap - 30 ringgit (480 rubles), although it took 15 minutes, but the taxi driver transported us across the border with Malaysia directly to the border with Phuket.

Crossing the Thai border from Malaysia

On the border with Phuket it was scary, at first we waited a long time for the ranchers’ border with groups, several buses arrived. Then they took Lesha’s passport, checked him for a long time, then they gave him migration cards that are always filled out on arrival, we filled them out. Lesha again came with a passport, he was asked about the return ticket, the purpose of the trip and the duration of stay, he said that we have not bought tickets yet, because it is expensive, later we will buy. Then they invited me, didn't ask me anything, just took a photo and took prints, stamped me and let me go.

Dank - Phuket by bus

The easiest way back was to go by minibas to the city of Hat Yai, and from there to Phuket. Because the bus from Danka to Phuket stops in the opposite direction is not clear where, we decided not to risk it.

So almost 20 meters from the border is the Oscar Palace hotel, opposite it across the road, a little closer to the border are minibases, they go from about 7 am to the city of Hat Yai and cost 100 baht per person, on the way about an hour.

We drove to the city of Hat Yai to the station and bought a ticket for 9 am to Phuket in a large bus for 900 baht for two. And it was a VIP spot. And after 9 hours we were in Phuket with a new stamp for 45 days.

Final expenditures

In total, we spent more than we could because we made a number of mistakes, it is actually much cheaper to go.

So, our expenses:

900 baht (1800 rubles) taxi to the station back and forth for tickets

700 baht (1400 rubles) taxi from the station to the hotel back and forth

900 baht (1800 rubles) Phuket-Dannock bus

800 baht (1600 rubles) bus Hat Yai Phuket, which we did not go

1000 baht (2100 rubles) fine for overs for two

2000 baht (4200 rubles) hotel in Malaysia

1000 baht (2100 rubles) food and taxi costs in Malaysia

200 baht (420 rubles) minibass Dunnank - Hat Yai

900 baht (1800 rubles) bus Hat Yai - Phuket

1000 baht (2100 rubles) food costs

Total: 9400 baht (19600 rubles) for all.

In fact, we managed as much as with helpers, but again we spent 2 days in another country, walked, got acquainted with the cuisine and climate. And you could also leave early, not pay overheads, you could also not pay for their Hat Yai ticket to Phuket 800 baht, you could go for tickets not by taxi, but by bike, but we passed ours or by mototaxi. And we can also not count food, because we already spend on it every day. The hotel could be rented cheaper in advance.

That is, the actual costs that will definitely have to be paid are

900 baht (1800 rubles) Phuket-Dannock bus

1000 baht (1200 rubles) hotel in Malaysia

200 baht (420 rubles) minibass Dunnank - Hat Yai

900 baht (1800 rubles) bus Hat Yai - Phuket

Total: 3,000 baht.

It was also possible to pay at the border 4,000 baht for two to return on the same day, but 2 days in Malaysia is cheaper.
