The history of the city is unique: the capital of Siberia was taken under the patronage of Peter I - he was going to give the city a "representative appearance". Order chambers and the Gostiny Dvor appear, the State Plant, a writing paper manufactory, a leather factory, a salotope, weapons and candle production are being built.
"Siberian exile"
The first to be exiled is the Uglich bell, which was “executed” by cutting off the tongue and “sent” to Tobolsk for notifying in 1591 about the death of Tsarevich Dmitry.
In the XVIII century in Tobolsk lived prisoners of war Swedish soldiers and officers, through local hard labor in different years followed the stage of Fyodor Dostoevsky, Nikolai Chernyshevsky, Vladimir Korolenko. In 1917, the family of Emperor Nicholas II served in the city.
Cultural development
The first city performances took place in 1705.
In Tobolsk, the only Siberian literary magazine “Irtysh Turning into Ippokrena” was published, and the city gymnasium for men was the first beyond the Ural mountains.

20 km from Tobolsk in the village of Abalak is the Abalak Holy Sign Monastery - a place of pilgrimage to the ancient image of the Tobolsk icon of the Abalak Mother of God.
Travelers can visit the tourist complex "Abalak" on the banks of the Irtysh, it presents the reconstruction of the Siberian prison during the conquest of Siberian lands by the Cossacks Yermak Timofeevich.
Active recreation
In the city there is a ski resort "Alemasova", which in winter attracts fans of snowboarding, alpine skiing, tubing, and in summer - fans of paintball, laser tag, rope trails.

15 km from Tobolsk in the village of Vinokurovo there is a health center with swimming pools (chloride-sodium mineral water) and a bath.
